Honda Electric vs. Hybrid vs. Fuel Cell Features Compared
Electric is the future of commuting. When you choose to drive an electric vehicle, such as the all-electric Honda Prologue, you are opting for a zero-emissions mode of transportation. Plus, electric vehicles offer near-instant acceleration, making them a fun-to-drive option, as well as being practical. With public charging stations becoming ever more prevalent, charging your electric vehicle is less of a hassle than it once was. At-home charging stations are also readily available.
The Honda electrified lineup has a large range of vehicles that fall into the hybrid category. This includes vehicles like the Honda CR-V Hybrid, Honda Civic Sedan Hybrid, and Honda Accord Hybrid. Hybrid models combine gasoline power and electric power to give you access to impressive fuel efficiency. This electric-gas fusion occurs when you generate electricity each time you brake.
What is a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV)? A fuel cell vehicle combines hydrogen fuel with electric power and allows you to choose which type of power you use each day. Fuel cell vehicles are primarily sold in California and parts of Canada because they require hydrogen refueling stations, which are not found in Illinois at this time. Currently, Honda offers one fuel cell vehicle — the Honda CR-V e:FCEV.
Honda Charging Capabilities
How do you charge your Honda electric vehicle? Public charging stations can be found all over Illinois and the United States, with more being added regularly. If charging at home, a couple of different charging options are available, including a home charging station and a portable charging kit. Honda Maintenance Tips
What’s the best way to maintain your Honda electric or hybrid vehicle? If you opt for a Honda electric vehicle such as a Honda Prologue, you may receive access to incentives and public charging credits to help you afford the costs of keeping your EV powered up. These incentives and credits can be accessed through the HondaLink® app. One of the many benefits of owning a Honda EV is the lack of oil changes — electric vehicles do not require oil to operate their batteries.
While EVs do not require the same maintenance as a gas-powered vehicle, the same cannot be said for a hybrid vehicle such as the Honda Civic Hatchback Hybrid or Honda CR-V Hybrid. Honda hybrid vehicles do require oil changes and other maintenance similar to any fully gas-powered vehicle. Check your owner’s manual for optimal oil change intervals.
